Hey y’all! Only 6 more days until Christmas!

Ok let me think about what even happened this week. So much good stuff!

Wednesday we had a multi-zone conference and Christmas party with the northern half of the mission! Honestly I had been waiting for that day for months and it exceeded all expectations! We drove 2 hours to cute Huntsville and the morning was the shortest zone conference of my life. President gave a really great training and then we had a talent show and y’all… I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much in my entire life. Honestly it was sooo funny and so entertaining I loved it so much! After that we had lunch and it was so so fun to be able to catch up with everyone! Goodness I love this mission so much. And then after that we watched Zootopia… let me tell you. It was SO WEIRD to be watching a movie. Like to just be sitting and not doing anything for 2 hours… weird. But it was cute and so fun! After that we had a Christmas devotional with President and Sister Sainsbury and it was the highlight for sure! They read the Christmas story in the new testament and we stopped and sang hymns to go along with the verses. The spirit was so incredibly strong! My heart has been so full with Christmas joy ever since!

We have been teaching a lady named Guillermina and she got baptized on Thursday! She doesn’t speak english so her daughter would translate in lessons and once a week the Altadena spanish elders would come teach her. She is such a bright light and sweet spirit! We are so excited for her and her family!

Friday and Saturday we went on an exchange with the Birmingham sisters, Sister Hammond and Sister Chavez! I stayed in Leeds with Sister Chavez and we had such a blast! She is a great missionary and so much fun to be around! I sure learned a lot from her! We had a referral in this really awesome trailer park. I LOVE proselyting in trailer parks hahaha it is so much fun. We were able to meet some really awesome people! I love Sister Chavez!

I love the Christmas season for so many reasons. But most of all I love the greater focus on our Savior. This year I feel like there has been a greater focus on His life, not just His birth. That’s the whole reason He was born! So he could be the perfect example and perform the atonement. The whole reason for Christmas is His earthly ministry! Because He was born death is overcome! Sorrow and pain are overcome! We have an advocate with the Father. He lives! What an incredible blessing to have this knowledge and even more of a blessing to be able to share it.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." -Isaiah 9:6

Keep Lighting the World!

Hey y’all!

Wow! This has been the craziest, busiest week of them all! Plus only 13 days until Christmas!

Tuesday was basically our only normal day of the week without any meetings or anything. We had lunch with the cuuuuutest older couple in the ward and helped them decorate their Christmas tree because they can’t do it themselves. They had so many cool ornaments and it was the highlight of the day! Just filled my heart right up with Christmas joy! A couple days before we had recieved a referral for someone who requested a Book of Mormon and we shouted for joy because most of the ones we get are for bibles! We called and set up an appointment for Tuesday evening. We put the address in the GPS and started to follow it and it was wayyyyyyyy out in the boonies. I’ve been in the boonies of Alabama before, but this was as hick as you can possibly imagine. I was in absolute heaven. For reals I had soooo much fun there. We knocked on all the doors we could and met some of the most awesome people. I wish I would have taken pictures because there is just no way to descibe it! We were able to meet with the referral and he was so kind and so excited about the Book of Mormon! He found because one of his facebook friends posted about #lighttheworld! You never know what the smallest things can do!

Wednesday was Birmingham zone training! Sister Hall and I gave 2 trainings together and then I did one on my own. we were talking afterwards and we felt like we were talking for half of it and that everyone was probably sick of hearing from us hahaaha. It went so well! I learned so much and it is always such a blessing to associate with these amazing missionaries!

Thursday we were able to go to the temple! We are incredibly lucky to be able to go to the temple as missionaries! Most missions don’t even have temples in them and the missions that do rarely get to go! It was so beautiful. I love the Birmingham temple with all my heart! It is so special to be in a session with all missionaries. Such power! After our session we had a vehicle training with one of the fleet managers in Salt Lake. That night we went to the Pell City Christmas parade to contact some people! I was in heaven there too, people. It was just like the one in the movie A Christmas Story where Santa comes at the end. It was so awesome. We even bumped in to a less active member that we have not been able to get a hold of! Miracle!

Friday we went on the first exchanges of the transfer! I went to Talladega with Sister Beus! I sure do love her. We reminisced about my first transfer when she was my STL in Tupelo and we nearly killed ourselves with heat exhaustion by biking up hills in the middle of July in 100 degrees and 100% humidity. Good times. But I’m happy to say that we stayed alive this exchange! We were able to meet some of the coolest people! Their branch president asked them to visit a lady who had just moved in to the branch. We went over there and she had been literally asking people on the street corner if she knew where our church was becuase she had no idea where it was! She was desperate and we were able to tell her where the church is and all was right in the world again!

Saturday was the ward Christmas party and it was a blast! Leeds ward continues to amaze me every day!

Sister Hall showed me a quote this morning that I absolutely love!
"To marvel at the wonders of the gospel is a sign of faith. It is to recognize the hand of the Lord in our lives and in everything around us. Our amazement also produces spiritual strength. It gives us the energy to remain anchored in our faith and to engage ourselves in the work of salvation." -Bishop Gerald Causse

Let the gospel continue to amaze you! What a gift it is to us!

Transfers and tornadoes

It sure has been quite the week! Monday and Tuesday were really busy trying to get everything packed up. When you spend 6 months in an area you sure accumulate a lot of junk! I fell incredibly grateful for the precious time I was able to spend in Russellville! I made the most wonderful friends and memories!

Tuesday afternoon we got home and our weather radio was going off for a tornado watch. Sister Stark picked us up and we went to an appointment and had ice cream and by the time we got back it was going off for a tornado warning and people were calling and texting us to get inside. Good thing the mission trains us so well on what to do when this happens! It started storming super super bad and the sky turned straight yellow which was way awesome haha. We got a text saying that it was going to hit our area at a certain time and Sister Beck and I put on our helmets and got cozy in the bathtub with a mattress on top of our heads! We chilled there for a little bit until it passed. The weather radio was going off until 2am with severe thunderstorm, tornado, and flash flood warnings. Sure made my last night in Russellville a memorable one! The area was just mourning my loss that’s all 🙂

We got up the next morning and went to Birmingham for transfers! It’s always so much fun to see everyone! And I got my new companion Sister Hall! She is the absolute cutest thing and I swear she’s perfect. I have yet to find a flaw 🙂 So excited for this transfer! We made the short trip to Leeds and we were able to visit a few people and have dinner with some members. This ward is so awesome, we have meal appointments every. single. night. I was like what in the worlddd? It’s the best! That night we also had correlation meeting with our ward mission leader. He is so on top of things and fulfills his calling so well! I am so amazed by the Leeds Ward!

Thursday we went back to B-ham for MLC! It was so fun you guys. There were some really great trainings and I learned so much and got to see so many people that I love! President and Sister Sainsbury are the best people and we are so excited for zone training this week! Wish me luck though because it’s my first as an STL haha. Looking forward to it!

Friday we met with the zone leaders and decided on our goals for the zone this transfer and planned zone training. This transfer is going to be so good, y’all! We’re dreaming of a White Christmas! BREAKING NEWS FROM FRIDAY: we saw a LIVE POSSUM! This is huge and let me explain why. There are literally sooooo many dead possums and armadillos on the side of the road here. They’re everywhere. And most missionaries go home without ever seeing a live one! But we were driving down the road and one just crossed right in front of us! It almost became another dead one on the side haha. I freaked out. What a great night. Mission bucket list item complete.

Saturday we were able to go to Wetumpka for the baptism of a girl Sister Hall taught in Alex City a couple transfers ago! She is the sweetest girl and was just glowing! It was such a great morning. So glad Sister Hall was able to go!

I have already been able to see so many miracles here and I am so excited to get to know Leeds even better!

Don’t forget to #lighttheworld this week! You will see many blessings from it!

All my love,
Sister Oscarson
