HUMP DAY

Hey y’all!

First things first……. RUTH CAME TO CHURCH!!!!!!!!!!! It was the greatest day ever! I love her SO MUCH! It was a joyful day filled with so much peace!

Wednesday was transfers!! "Transfer hub" (since we’re not supposed to call it transfer meeting anymore) is always so much fun! I got to see some of my very favorite missionaries! I said good bye to Sister Hall which was super sad but I know she is on to amazing things! She will thrive no matter where she is! And I said hello to Sister Conteh! She is the cutest thing and SO hilarious!! Seriously I have been laughing nonstop for the past 5 days. She is from Virginia and joined the church when she was 13. Her story is SO inspiring! She is a great missionary and this is her last transfer so I’m killing her too.

After transfers we stopped in Irondale to contact a media referral who turned out to be super awesome and then we went on a team up with the wonderful Sister Thunell!

Thursday we spent a loooooong time weekly planning to figure out all of our exchanges and getting Sister Conteh caught up on the area. In the afternoon we had a good lesson with Victoria who we met last week and had dinner with the Bodilys!

Friday we were in Irondale and we were FINALLY able to see Brittany! She is still reading the Book of Mormon but everything is up in the air right now because her whole apartment complex just found out they all have to be out by Tuesday. My heart is just broken for all those people who have to find another place to go. We had a great lesson with Tim, who was the media referral we met on Wednesday! He is so awesome!

Saturday was a hard day tbh. We got bashed really bad with some really really horrible anti. Guys, don’t even mess with anti. It’s ridiculous.

Saturday was also my 9 month mark! Crazy. #humpday

But Sunday was the most wonderful day!!!! RUTH WAS AT CHURCH and I sang a solo in sacrament meeting! I have missed singing so much and it felt so good to sing again! We had some way good lessons after church and then we were able to have dinner with an awesome recent convert/part member family!

This week I read an ensign article that I loved that I want to share! It’s from the August 2016 Ensign and it’s titled Rooted in Christ by Elder L. Whitney Clayton. It was powerful!

We’re fixin to have a crazy week with MLC, zone training, and lots of other good things!

Have a blessed week y’all!
All my love,
Sister Oscarson

9 months!!

p.s. sorry I don’t have any pictures of Sister Conteh… I promise she exists and she’s super cute.

Here am I, send me

Hey y’all!

This week was full of so many good things!

Tuesday was Valentine’s Day + zone training! Zone training went really well and we had so much fun! I LOVE our zone! Plus us and the zone leaders only had to give one training each! That night we had dinner with the Hardins and they are the CUTEST people there ever was! We had the cutest heart shaped pizzas! We got home that night and the sweetest ward members had heart attacked our door! We sure felt the love that day!

On Wednesday we went on an awesome team up with Sister Thunell and then we taught a cute little mission prep class to the young women for mutual! It was so fun to participate in young womens again and I LOVED just being able to talk about how great missions are! I will forever be grateful for this wonderful ward!

Thursday and Friday we went on exchanges with the Birmingham sisters and I was with cute Sister Hammond! She is so bold and powerful! We went and contacted at Bass Pro Shops and man, that was fun! We went and visited a less active sister in the ward who we had never met before. This lady has a MANSION. Seriously I didn’t even need a GPS to get there because it’s so huge and all by itself in the middle of the woods you can see it from anywhere. She gave us a tour and we were able to have a really really good lesson with her. She has such strong desires to be sealed to her husband who passed away a year ago and she is so, so inspiring.

After that we had dinner with Bill and his 12 year old granddaughter Angel who are recent converts and the sweetest people you will ever meet! Goodness I just love them so much. While we were eating our pizza Angel randomly started asking super deep questions about the plan of salvation. It was really cool because I had just studied Abraham that morning and was able to share the things I read and they answered her questions perfectly! I have a huge testimony of studies and that the things we study will come up that day! It was the coolest thing to see the spirit working there.

I LOVED Abraham 3 and here are some of my new favorite verses from it:

23 And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.
24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell;
25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;

27 And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.

Friday morning Sister Hammond and I went to visit a less active sister that lives right by us and she chewed me out. Bad. So for the rest of Friday I was in a really bad mood and poor Sister Hall had to deal with me. We were both having a rough day. But God is good. Late in the afternoon all our plans had fallen through and we felt like we needed to visit a couple potential investigators in some projects on the other side of Pell City. We got out of the car and there was a lady coming out of her apartment right in front of where we parked. We started talking to her and her life has been crazy insane hard lately and she 100% needed us and we 100% needed her! Her name is Victoria and she was a total miracle. We all just cried together. God is so aware of ALL of His children.

Saturday and Sunday we had Birmigham stake conference! It was wonderful!

Well… tomorrow is transfers and Sister Hall is going back to Utah and I am getting a new companion, Sister Conteh! She is a spanish speaking sister so it will be so fun to be in a zebra. I am so excited for what this new transfer has in store!

I cannot express my love and gratitude for Sister Hall in words! it has truly been the greatest blessing and honor to serve with her for the past 2 transfers. The ABM will greatly miss her!

Have a blessed week, y’all!
All my love,
Sister Oscarson

There’s no ham like Birmingham

Hey y’all!

This week we had lots of tracting adventures. Sister Hall and I both love tracting and we had more time to do it this week. There’s no other way you can meet such cool people and talk to them about Jesus!

Tuesday we had MLC! (I feel like I’m just constantly telling y’all about meetings. #missionarylife) I LOVE MLC! It was great and a lot of the focus was on leadership and how to be leader like the greatest leader, Christ. At the end we all moved to the chapel and President Sainsbury gave a powerful training on the sabbath day and the spirit was so strong!

Wednesday morning we went to Gadsden (and made it all the way there and back with no GPS mind you) for interviews! President and Sister Sainsbury and the most Christlike people there ever was and we absolutely adore them!

We came back to Leeds afterwards and started our exchange with the Gardendale sisters! I was with Sister Pyrah and we had a blast. We had the same trainer, Sister Griffith, and she served in Russellville AND Leeds so there was soooo much to talk about! She is a fantastic missionary and I learned a lot from her. That night we had dinner with our favorite members the Thunells!

We had an appointment with our investigator Miss Ruth who is easily one of my very favorite people! We were reading with her where she left off in the Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi 4. We got to the part where Nephi kills Laban and Ruth says, "ohhhh, bless his heart." It took everything in Sister Hall and I to not start laughing right there. We just adore Ruth! She and I are best friends whether she wants to admit it or not πŸ™‚ "I love country music but I don’t like singing cowboys." -Miss Ruth

Today we had a zone activity in Birmingham! I LOVE being in the city. It’s so fun and crazy. The zone activity was way fun and were able to go and get some things done at the mission office. We had lunch at one of the best bbq places in Alabama and we were in heaven! It was the most southern place you’ve ever seen with Alabama football stuff alllll over the place. It was the best thing ever and I fit right in with my Alabama shirt but the only thing wrong was my yankee accent πŸ™‚ The south sure has my heart.

This week during personal study this scripture really struck me:

"Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea." -Jacob 4:6

We are so blessed to have the spiritual witnesses that we do!

Have a great week! Happy Valentine’s Day!
All my love,
Sister Oscarson

Real southern bbq will never compare to anything out west!

We adore Miss Ruth!

Our investigator Valerie had her son over at her house who trades reptiles. So obviously we had to hold his snake… yeah.

Happy February!

Hey y’all!

Sister Hall and I were talking last night about how this was one of the crazy busiest weeks of our missions so far.

Tuesday and Wednesday we went on exchanges with the other set of hermanas in Altadena! I was with Sister Ward and she is the SWEETEST thing!! She has such a calming and confident sense about her that I really admire. We had a really really great lesson with our investigator Valerie who very eagerly accepted a baptismal invitation! I was also able to put Sister Ward’s spanish skills to use and it was so so helpful! I just love her and it was such a great exchange!

Friday we had zone conference! We were combined with the Bessemer zone and we’re the 2 biggest zones in the mission so it was such a good time! Sister Hall and I gave a training on baptism invites and it went well and there was lots of participation! The whole conference was on the process that takes an investigator from being found to being baptized. It was powerful and so cool to see an overview of the whole process! It was also so much fun to see my daughter Sister Mathis! It is so cool to see how much she’s grown! Plus she is companions with one of my favorite people ever Sister Trepanier who I was in the MTC with! (LOVE Y’ALL because I know you’re reading this) Sister Dimon who serves in Birmingham who has the most beautiful voice sang the most beautiful song for a musical number and I accompanied her! I love love love the spirit that music can bring.

After zone conference we went on another exchange! This time we were with the Talladega sisters and I was with Sister Davidson! She is the cutest thing. Friday night we had dinner with some of our very favorite members, the Thunells! We seriously would not survive without them. They are heaven sent and the family I want to be! We had a team up after that and we got to meet a new sister who moved into the ward!

Sunday was Sister Hall’s 18 month mark! She’s so grown up! We both super love mexican food so to celebrate on Saturday we went to a super cute mexican place in Pell City we’ve always wanted to try. Sister Hall is such a great example to me. She loves her mission with her whole entire heart and is sprinting to the finish line. She is exactly what I want to be when I get to that point in my mission! I am so so blessed to have been with her for the last 2 transfers. She is truly my best friend!

Have a blessed week y’all!
All my love,
Sister Oscarson
