It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Hey y’all!

Well it’s finally Chrismastime and I’m happier than ever! (literally if anyone says anything about not celebrating Christmas before Thanksgiving we’re not friends anymore.) Prattville is all decked out and it’s the greatest thing ever.

The week started out great on Tuesday! We were able to see Norma Jean (a less active that we can NEVER contact) and she is doing well! And we had dinner with Mary Ann and TJ and THEY ARE DOING SO WELL!!! I am so, so, so proud of them. They are making such incredible strides. Honestly if Prattville had just them in it, it would still be the greatest area ever. (also that night at like 9:30 we were just chilling in our apartment and there’s a knock at the door and I go and answer it and it’s the elders they threw a literal DEAD SQUIRREL into our apartment. Don’t ask why because I already did. nastiest thing of my life)

Wednesday we had a super fun district meeting and that evening we had coorelation with our best ever ward mission leader Brother Chambers! Honestly he is the best! (probably lots of good things happened in between those but I can remember soooo)

Thursday my companion was literally sick with the black plague. It was so sad. BUT we did have interviews with President Sainsbury and he and Sister Sainsbury are still the best! Also that night at basketball Sister Farr injured her knee real bad… so the Prattville/Millbrook sisters had a lot of bad luck haha.

Friday my companion was even sicker so we spent it with the Millbrook sisters who were also down because of the injury. We ate Blue Bell, so life was good.

Saturday was honestly probably the greatest day of my life. At the stake center in Montgomery every year they do an interfaith nativity exhibit. Tons of people donate nativities from all over the world and they display them all (hundreds of them) and it is the most beautifully decorated Christmas dreamland perfection you have ever seen. I literally started crying when I saw it. (and it wasn’t even done yet.) We helped with the nativity registration and it was so fun! So all in all a perfect day!

Sunday was wonderful and we even had permission to watch the young adult face to face broadcast! I loved it and it provided a lot of answers to questions I’ve had!

Today we explored the Prattville bamboo forest (enjoy the pictures because I think they’re pretty hilarious haha) and Brother Memory is the best person ever so he took us all to a Cajun restaurant he wanted us to try! A truly southern meal isn’t complete without alligator, right?

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Here’s my favorite video to go along with the holiday:

I am thankful for Alabama, the gospel of Jesus Christ, southern cooking, my companion, the Prattville ward, and most of all that I get to be a missionary!

Y’all don’t know the holy dance?!

Hey y’all!

This is been one of the greatest weeks! (okay I know I say that literally every week but it’s true)
Here are some of the highlights:

Wednesday morning we had an appointment with Lizzie (the same woman who said she divorced the devil. So we should have known she was crazy.) We got there and it was normal and then
Halfway into it we had a conversation that went like this:

"Do y’all do the holy dance at your church?"

"The holy dance? What’s that?"

"The holy dance! Y’all don’t know the holy dance?!"

"Uhhh.. can you show us?"

The she gladly demonstrated the holy dance for us and let me tell you… it was a sight. I don’t even know how to describe it haha. Just a lot of hallelujahs and praising Jesus! I just wish you could have seen it because afterwards we laughed about it for like an hour straight. (only in the south… I love this place.)

After that appointment we had one with our favorite Megan! We had Sister Willis with us who is wonderful and we decided to be sneaky and have the elders come and play basketball with her husband Danny so he wouldn’t be a distraction. (he’s been wanting to play basketball with them forever and he is the worst distraction ever when we’re there) And it turned out to be so, so great!! The spirit was very strong and she even recognized that she felt it so that was a huge step. Plus the elders were able to have a good conversation with Danny so we were very satisfied!

Friday was zone conference in Montgomery! (my new fav place) It was great and we got all the stuff for the new Light the World initiative and I can’t wait!
I bore my departing testimony and it tore my heart out. I love my mission for so many reasons and I can’t express my gratitude. (I also saw my new favorite church sign, "Be an organ donor, give your heart to Jesus.")

Saturday was one of the greatest days! We saw Nicole in the morning and it was soooo good to see her! Then we went over to Megan’s and she opened up to us way more than she ever has before, it was really amazing. Her situation is so hard and my heartjust aches for her. But I know that God is aware of her and that the missionaries found her for a reason. That evening we had an appointment with Lee and y’all, it was incredible. That morning Sis Benitez texted us and told us that Lee texted her and invited her to the lesson! (we took her to our last lesson and they loved each other) So she set up a member present lesson for herself so that was pretty cool. She has recently had a tragedy happen and she opened up to us a lot about it and was able to find a lot of relief. The spirit was incredibly strong. I LOVE HER SOOOOOO MUCH! Obviously you love all your investigators you ever have, but there’s just something about Lee and she has my entire heart.

Also this week we gained the most solid, well progressing investigators. Back in August when we had a ward picnic we found this family (I think I wrote about them) and the elders have been teaching them ever since. Well long story short something happened and because of the situation we’re teaching them now. We loved them already so it was easy! The mom’s name is Felecia and her kids are Ja’kayla, Ja’Fredrick, and Ja’Maya. (yes I am 100% serious, those are their real names) The elders gave us basically all their investigators this week. What troopers.

Have the best week!

Heaven is our home

Hey y’all!

The new transfer is off to a great start! It’s been crazy week but one of the best!

Tuesday was Halloween! We weren’t supposed to go out that night so we went with our district to Sister Jones’ house (Millbrook ward) and played games and ate treats and it was the best! And half our district got transferred the next day so that was very sad. Wednesday was the start of the new transfer and we are so excited!

The rest of the week was normal, full of teaching and finding. We did have a really great lesson with Megan, all the distractions were really reduced so it was a much better environment. She was able to understand a lot better. And we talked to Nicole about going to the temple and she said, "I am SO ready!" So we are working on making that happen! Wow she is the best.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about President Eyring’s talk Gathering the Family of God. I love it! I love how he talks about heaven being our home, and all God wants is to have us back. I know heaven is our home and will be familiar to us when we get back.
Here’s my favorite quote from it:

"The central element of this plan was the promise that Jesus Christ would offer Himself as a sacrifice, to rescue us from sin and death. Our task in that plan is to accept the Savior’s sacrifice by obeying the laws and ordinances of the gospel. You and I accepted this plan. In fact, we rejoiced in it, even though it would mean that we would leave the presence of our Father and forget what we had experienced there with Him. But we were not sent here completely in the dark. Each of us was given a portion of God’s light, called the “Light of Christ,” to help us distinguish between good and evil, right and wrong. This is why even those who live with little or no knowledge of the Father’s plan can still sense, in their hearts, that certain actions are just and moral while others are not."

God is truly good. He’s give us a way to not only come back, but come back better.

All my love,

Transfer news, a funeral, and Sister Clifford growing up

Hey y’all!

Wow can’t believe it’s already p-day again! It’s a little weird this week, p-day is today instead of yesterday so we’re not out on Halloween.

We got our transfer news last night and I’m staying here in Prattville with Sister Clifford!! Couldn’t be happier!! This will make 7.5 months in Prattville, crazy huh? It definitely doesn’t feel like that long. I love it here.

Well here goes with the week!

Tuesday morning we had interviews with President Sainsbury! I love that man so much. The rest of the day we were able to have some really really great lessons with a couple less actives in the ward!

Wednesday we had district meeting (love this district more than anything. We’re getting split up and it’s the worst) and had a great lesson with Lizzie (a woman we met at the well) and it was so cool to see how receptive she was!

Thursday night we had the best lesson with Lee that we’ve ever had! We took Sister Benitez with us and it turned out to be exactly what Lee needed. We’re trying so hard to help her recognize that she already knows this is true. She is definitely getting there!

Friday was our cute ward trunk-or-treat and there was a great turn out!

We had a good weekend and church was wonderful, the spirit was very very strong.

Monday was the day we have been waiting for for so long! Elder Foudy is going home this week and we’re all very sad about it. For weeks we have been planning a surprise funeral for him. It turned out so well! Man I wish you all could have been there! The program and decorations turned out soooo good! The pictures don’t do it justice 🙂

Oh and Sister Clifford and I finished 12 week yesterday (the extra study program to help train new missionaries) so she is a grown up now and I am so proud!!

Love y’all! Have a great week!
All my love,
Sister Oscarson
